AuDHDaptations™

Part of NeuroSpicy & Thriving, AuDHDaptations helps us reframe the shame by understanding the WHY beneath behavior. It is a growing collection of stories, conversations, practical tools, workshops, and support for neurodivergent children and adults, as well as the people who love, teach, and work beside them.

REFRAME THE SHAME

Behavior is information, not evidence of character.

Someone who appears lazy may be overwhelmed by executive-function demands. A child who appears defiant may be protecting autonomy, confused, dysregulated, afraid, exhausted, sensory overloaded, or unable to meet a demand. A teacher who appears disorganized may be drowning in a system that requires more executive function than any one person can keep supplying. The behavior is visible. The WHY underneath it usually is not.

AuDHDaptations begins with a different question: What is happening underneath this, and what would support success? That question does not excuse harmful behavior or erase accountability. It gives us enough information to respond with compassion and agency, change the conditions that are not working, build missing skills, repair harm, and practice a more sustainable way forward.

START HERE: SOMETHING YOU CAN USE TODAY

You should not have to wait for a course to begin. Use the P.E.A.C.E. Method when your nervous system is activated, ask five questions to look underneath a difficult behavior, or choose an article that gives language to something you have been living.

Neurodivergent Adults

Stories, conversations, and practical activities help children and the adults who care for them understand bodies, emotions, executive functions, sensory needs, and behavior without turning hard moments into character judgments.

Resources for understanding your own patterns, rebuilding self-trust, working with your brain, and replacing shame-based coping with supports that preserve both authenticity and responsibility.

Partners & Supporters

Neurodivergent Adults

Neurodivergent Educators

Education and workable systems for the people who love, live with, or work beside a neurodivergent adult. The goal is shared understanding, clear expectations, healthy boundaries, and conditions that protect the relationship as well as the individual.

Stories, Audio & Activities

Neurodivergent Educators

Support for teachers whose own nervous systems and executive-function needs are often overlooked while they care for everyone else. This branch will address energy, planning, classroom systems, masking, and communication.

The same learning may begin in a story, continue in a parent-child car conversation, and become an activity that can be practiced at home or school. The form changes so the meaning can travel into real life.

Live learning, mentoring, guides, and future interactive tools will help people turn understanding into concrete supports. Each resource will be built in stages and tested for usefulness before the next one is added.

THE LITTLE TREE GREW UP

We do not make a tree grow by demanding that it try harder.

We learn what kind of tree it is, how much light and water it needs, what the soil contains, what damaged its roots, and what is crowding out its growth. Children and adults are more complex than trees, of course, but we often offer them less curiosity.

The Little Tree Grew Up is the foundational story taking shape inside AuDHDaptations. It gives children and adults a shared language for talking about growth, safety, difference, unmet needs, and the conditions that help a person thrive. The story will live in more than one place, as a children's book, a workshop opening, an audio experience, and a source of family activities, but every version will protect the integrity of the original story.

Meet Julie

Before AuDHDaptations was a project

Before AuDHDaptations was a project, it was the way I kept trying to make sense of what I saw in classrooms, families, and my own life. I was often the teacher who could see that a behavior made sense before I had the language to explain why.

More than 25 years in education

I spent more than 25 years in education, including K-2 classrooms, Montessori early childhood education, and owning a preschool. Later, understanding my own neurodivergence, supporting my family, and studying consciousness, psychology, and transformation gave me language for patterns I had been following for years.

What I bring together now

Today, I bring together education, developmental understanding, trauma awareness, nervous-system regulation, and lived experience. I am not interested in teaching people how to appear less neurodivergent. I want to help them understand what is happening, build supports that work, repair what needs repair, and create lives and relationships with more room to breathe.

Follow AuDHDaptations as it grows

AuDHDaptations is growing in stages because I want each resource to be useful before I build the next one. Join the list to hear when new audio experiences, practical tools, workshops, stories, and teacher resources are ready. You do not need to know which program you need yet. Begin with the place where shame, confusion, or exhaustion keeps repeating, and we will look underneath it together.
